I had my first few lessons at this ground under the supervision of Sam, who went through all the basics with me, and hammered home the mantra…”don’t care if you miss, but miss it in front” Seemed to work as my appreciation of the dreaded lead picture started to emerge.
I really enjoy shooting at Greenfields, it’s a good size ground, split into two halves, the notorious top field being the more difficult targets generally. Ten stands changed each week or so, always a good driven stand, and usually some tricky crossers a bit out there.
The traps are located on several scaffold towers, banks, and hidden away in thickets, it’s not uncommon to hear the trap releasing and the bird appearing a second or two later.
You can practice here Wednesday through to Saturday, Sunday is sometimes a competition day, CPSA registered shoots are on the first of each month usually.
Solo practice is easy with the Promatic clay system, dial in a 3 second delay and off you go.
You can shoot what you like or pre-load the card. Traps are generally pretty good, and they give an allowance for no birds and sighters.
Theres a shop selling accessories, clothes, cartridges and guns etc and cafe on site in the grass roofed log cabin. Prices are one of the cheapest in the south east at the moment at 26p a clay!!! For quality targets and the given facilities you will not get better value.
Unfortunately Greenfields is closing its doors at some stage in the future as there’s a big development planned for the site.
Such a shame to lose such a great and well established shooting ground…it will be sorely missed by many shooters.
