Southdown gun club

Muntham Farm, Findon,  Worthing Wet Sussex BN14 ORQ

Only had the pleasure of visiting Southdown on one occasion so far, so we decided to make it a short weekend stop over. Found a lovely little b&b in nearby Findon, a charming little village not far from the ground.

I’d heard a lot said about southdown being a hard shoot with very long targets but as I walked down “the lane” I was quite surprised to find nothing too difficult to hit…not saying I was smashing everything to dust though. The weekend we were there was extremely windy, so the real high birds from the lifts weren’t operational unfortunately, I was really looking forward to having a crack at those.

As you traverse the lane, the stands are set out left and right, over fields and  high banking to the left.

At the clubhouse end of the ground there are areas for Compak, fitasc,  ABT, DTL and a skeet layout. All on a promatic card system.

On the Sunday afternoon I had a coaching session with the Head Fitasc instructor Iain Stirling, shooting on 2 of the dedicated layouts.

In the reception area/gunshop there are shotguns and ammo for sale along with clothing etc. upstairs is the cafe catering for shooters fayre and a welcome rest after walking the lane.

Toilet facilities are in a separate block.

The infamous road to southdown is a bit of a trek, not the sort of track for a low slung sports coupe, more 4x4 although the car park is large and of solid construction.

I’m looking forward to another trip to Southdown, and hoping to shoot a full  FITASC layout with the pro’s…
